Layla Ocean Rush and New Facebook Group

This is one I’ve been waiting to try and since my DRK-A plate is not here yet or the new Konad M88 plate I am waiting on, I decided to put this one to the test. I really am surprised, I used the Nfu-Oh Aqua Base, let it dry and when I went to do the left hand the first one was bubbly and chunky! I freaked, and re-stroked it to get the mess OFF it which, lucky for me, worked out okay. I don’t know, but I am not as happy with the consistency of these two polishes. I’m not saying it’s their fault, but the polishes are different then the first one I picked up, Ultra Violet.

That one was fine, and thin, these other two, Retro Pink and Ocean Rush, seemed to be a bit evaporated and had some chunkiness to them, almost like a crackle polish does if you leave it open too long. Each seemed to me to be slightly evaporated, because the consistency was definitely different. I hope you like the photographs I took of this manicure, I was glad that things evened out with the second coat, and like I’ve worn in the past the top coat is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Clearly Quick.

I picked up a L.A. Colors French Manicure set today at Dollar General for $2.00 and when the M88 arrives I’ll be doing a review on it so I wanted to have the little stickers to use since I don’t have M19 I wanted something to help make a decent tip from. The set of two polishes comes with 20 stickers, although I don’t know if I’ll use the polishes, I want to use Whirlwind White for the French Tip part, and maybe Gothic Lolita for the main color, we’ll have to see what I feel like when the time comes.

In other news I created a facebook group called Nail Polish and Nail Care that you’re welcome to join, it’s meant to be a place to share tips and photographs of manicures and polishes and nail polishing news. I love the stamping group and the polish group I’m already in, but I wanted to make one that also centered on nail care. I hope you’ll join us! Thank you for supporting and reading my blog, I wish you all happy polishing.

Leopard Gradient Take Two

I started seeing some chipping on my right hand and decided to redo this manicure but this time with different colors. I used Whirlwind White as the base color so it really pops! I used Sinful Colors 24/7 (the pink) and two Sally Hansen’s. Mellow Yellow, my favorite Xtreme Wear for marbling, and a new one I picked up on clearance at Walgreen’s when I also picked up 24/7 and 2 bottles of Black on Black, it’s Blue Blast a Sally Hansen Insta-Dri.

I am really enjoying this manicure, it’s much more like what I had envisioned when I worked on it two days ago originally. I didn’t do any cleanup on the gradient before taking a picture, so forgive me for not wiping the skin around my nails with a pointy q-tip before I shot the photograph. I think the finished manicure looks awesome though, and again it was stamped with Sinful Colors Black on Black, and m57.

I hope you like it. I really do, I went out to the library to pick up a video and the librarian said, “Oh my what fancy nails!” I thanked her and said, “It’s a two-step process, I really enjoy doing nail art.” It made my day today. I hope that you enjoy this manicure. I have great news to share, Ninja Polish got the DRK-A plate back in stock this past Monday and I ordered it within an hour of getting the email notice. It got shipped yesterday and should be here by Friday, I will be doing a review on this plate and sharing many new fresh manicures over the weeks to come. Thank you for checking out my blog and I wish you happy polishing!

Leopard Stamped Gradient

I bring you an interesting first gradient attempt. I think it would have been better had I done it with regular polish instead of the two Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri’s I used. I used Presto Pink, and Lightening with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Pacific Blue. I followed Colette’s (mysimplelittlepleasures) lead in her gorgeous Acid Leopard tutorial and I am pleased enough with the final look, however the gradient really could have been better.

I hope you like it, I went with the advice Colette offers in the link above, and found using a cosmetic wedge wasn’t too hard, but you have to work fast, as the polish dries rather fast. I used a cottage cheese lid instead of a paper plate though because I had it handy. I used Sinful Color’s Black on Black again to stamp Konad m57 leopard print on top of the gradient, and it’s fantastic, so if you’re looking for a nice stamping black I would pick up a bottle of Sinful’s Black on Black, it’s even on sale this week at Walgreen’s for $.99!

Thank you for checking out my post and I hope to bring you some Ocean Rush photographs this week. Happy polishing!

New Bundle Monster Sneak Peek

This is another good one with more adorable designs on it. I really like the candy one and think it will be perfect for the winter holiday season or even for anytime, in a red and white as if they were peppermints. I can’t wait to try it out. I hate that we have to wait a month, but it’s going to be a month at least before these are released. The good news is I am sure they have worked out any kinks or stamping anomalies by now and we’ll all get some killer plates to spice up our manicures with.

I hope you like this sneak peek, I know it made my morning to see it! Happy polishing!

“Photograph” Inspired Manicure

I bring you Rapid Red stamped with m57 and Sinful Colors Black on Black. I am really enjoying this manicure, it’s my Adventures in Stamping Sunday challenge manicure. This week the challenge was “Inspired by your favorite band or music” and of course I chose Def Leppard. This nail art is based on their video from the 80’s “Photograph” and a tribute to Rick Savage’s hot red leopard print pants! I couldn’t find a picture of them, but if you look at this video you’ll see it, and the other reference, the beads. I wanted to capture the essence of the video in my picture and so I used a pose from the video at 2:16 you can see the black and white image of the Marilyn Monroe model holding the beaded necklaces.

It’s not an exact duplicate of the pose, but I think my manicure is “Rockstar” material! I hope you like it. I love the Insta-Dri formula, but the brushes can be difficult to work with. You’ll see a photograph of the Rapid Red before I stamped, with preliminary cleanup, and it was hard to apply without getting it all over my skin. This is two coats, though one would have been enough. I hope you like the photographs, I included a snapshot of the new bracelet I picked up at a local Dollar Store.
Hope you enjoy this last one, it's me at 19 when I met 3 of the members of the band, they were on the Hysteria tour, September of 1988 and it was awesome! I had on leopard print nail art even then, and I will never forget Rick Savage holding my hands admiring my nail art-even if they were artificals, he still loved it! I don’t usually put so many pictures in one post, but I thought that this manicure deserved a small spotlight showcasing it. I think the photograph is my best work to date and I hope you enjoyed sharing it with me. Thank you for checking out my blog and look forward to Ocean Rush this weekend! In Nail Stamping News, Bundle Monster is hosting a killer nail art contest where 25 people will be selected to receive their new 2012 stamping plates as their prize! If you’re on facebook and into nail art you’ve got to enter this. I entered my Sunshine Pop manicure and it’s already up. As always I wish you happy polishing!

Layla Retro Pink

My order arrived yesterday and I am delighted to bring you Retro Pink in all its glory. With the Nfu-Oh Aqua Base it was dreamy to apply, it glides on so easily that I can’t imagine using anything else with it. One coat is nice, but sheer, two is magic! I waited for the morning sun to get these photos, except for the one of the bottles, that I took yesterday. But then it’s not so showy in the bottle, it’s on the nail that these polishes come alive! I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Clearly Quick for my top coat and again, there was no dulling of the amazing holo.

I really love my Layla’s, and have heard through the grapevine more colors are coming very soon. From what I understand there will be a Gold, a Red, an Emerald Green and many other cool new holographic colors. This is wonderful news because it tells me that these aren’t limited edition for the moment. That’s great because I know there are a lot of people who wish they had gotten in on the China Glaze OMG series, and weren’t able to, now they can get true linear holo polishes at not so bad prices. There is a coupon, two actually, for aveyou, “ALLCHIC” for 20% off your order and “GIMME25” for $25 off an order of $100 or more and as far as I know they expire on 5-31-12.

I hope you enjoy the photographs, I really love the new camera and think it’s great that it can capture the holoness of my new Layla polishes. The other camera I was using never could do justice to Ultra Violet, but it did fine with other polishes. I am thinking of doing an accent ring finger stamp on this manicure, but I’m not sure. It’s just so gorgeous on its own, what do you think? Should I stamp over a Layla? I have the urge to, then I think about how nice it is alone and the urge to stamp passes. Thank you for checking out my blog and I wish you happy polishing!

Ultra Violet, A Second Look

I know, I thought I was going to put on the new Revlon, Ocean Breeze, but I heard through the grapevine that Layla is releasing new colors soon and I decided to try the aqua base with my Ultra Violet. I think the results are stunning. I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Clearly Quick for the top coat and it didn’t dull the holo at all. As for the application of the Aqua Base, one thin coat for me was dry in ten minutes, but I waited for fifteen just to be sure. When I applied the Layla it was a whole other story then when I did it with the layered bases I had before I bought the Nfu-Oh Aqua Base. It was a dream to apply this time around.

I was so amazed! It was like any other polish, no streaking and balding on coat 1, and coat 2 was pure magic to watch as it dried. There will be a post on the new Layla’s when they share the news on their facebook page, so if you’re as excited as I am about that news, check back soon, or like them on facebook here and get the news as it’s posted right from them directly. I am tickled pink to share that my new Layla’s should arrive today, I am so looking forward to trying them out now that I have the proper base coat. Retro Pink and Ocean Rush will be well used in my collection to be sure.

I hope you like the photographs, it’s so much nicer now that I have the new camera, it’s a breeze to shoot new pictures, they all seem to come out during the day, at night the flash makes it another story however. I just might stamp over this manicure, because of the Adventures in Stamping challenge this week is to use more than one image or stamping over a gradient, and I haven’t ever tried gradients, so more than one image it will be! It was far too windy last night and I wanted to get fresh photographs of the Ultra Violet manicure before I stamped over it. I hope you’re having a great weekend and I wish you happy polishing!

New Bundle Monster Image

For Friday the 13th they released this newest sneak peek, pretty cool looking smilie faces, I love this plate! What do you think?

I am really ready to buy this set of plates, they all seem wonderful, and I want them as badly as the next avid stamper. Happy polishing!

CVS Hauls in April

I had heard CVS had some good clearances, but I haven’t checked before. I went by one of my CVS’s and scored big in my opinion. They had three of the Milani 3D Holographics left, I don’t know if they are no longer carrying them or what, but upon seeing three I liked I grabbed them! They are 3D the Silver one, and Hi-Tech the Green one and HD the Gold one. I am thrilled to have gotten them 75% off plus using a $.50 off extra bucks reward it brought the price well under the cost of one of these alone. I paid $3.86 for all three as well as getting a $5 off Revlon if I bought two, and so with the buy 1 get 1 50% off sale they had going I decided I would swing by the other CVS to use it.

So I went by the other CVS nearby and they had zip! Nothing! Nada! I was a little disappointed by this, but I’ll know which one to go by from now on. I did use the coupon on two Revlons, I have been admiring Ocean Breeze from afar and I decided on buying it today along with Copper Penny to take advantage of the sale and the coupon. I paid $4.84 altogether for both polishes! Again, less than the cost of one alone, I am excited by this and not sure which one I will wear first. Probably Ocean Breeze, but it’s a scented one and I put off buying it because of that, so we’ll see, the cashier told me she had it and it smelled like perfume on your hands, I can probably deal with it but I’ll report back when I share pictures of the manicure I do with it.

Thanks for reading and happy polishing!

Reggae to Riches China Glaze

I have wanted this polish for some time, but never picked it up and purchased it until this month’s buy 2 get 1 free polish sale at Sally’s. I really am glad I picked it up finally. It’s really pretty, I loved applying it, the formula was flawless. It wasn’t too thick at all, very good consistency, and it applied perfectly. Sadly I wasn’t able to stamp on the previous manicure, because I developed some chipping on my pretty Blue Me Away manicure, so I decided to redo my nails altogether.

And a bonus picture of my naked nails before I added the polish:

And the final manicure stamped with Konad M57 using Sally Hansen’s Silver Sweep from the Insta-Dri collection:

I hope you liked the photographs of the stages of this manicure and I thank you for reading and for taking time to follow my blog. I really appreciate that you enjoy my posts, thank you for sharing my manicuring journey with me and as always, I wish you happy polishing!

New Bundle Monster Image Plate 302

I hope you like this one, it’s really cute, but pretty much an Easter themed plate, so if you don’t celebrate Easter it’s got two other images you might use, or might not. But I wanted to share this with you now. I have a base manicure set up for stamping, yet I haven’t had a moment to stamp yet, so in addition to the Bundle Monster Image Plate sneak peek I bring you Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue Me Away! I love this color! Very cool color. I hope you like this one, I can’t believe I waited so long to add this one to my collection.

Thanks for checking out my blog and I hope you’re having a happy Easter Sunday, if you celebrate it. If not I hope you’re enjoying your weekend. As always, I wish you very happy polishing!

Sunshine Pop Stamped

I originally bought this polish to water marble with, but it wouldn’t spread in the water when I dropped some in, it sunk like a stone. I wasn’t sure if I would wear this color or not, but after picking up two of the Sally Hansen Color Quick polishing pens in Chrome Turquoise I thought it would look nice on this bright yellow. I tried to take photographs last night of Sunshine Pop on its own, but the flash kept firing so I had to give up since I don’t know how to disengage the auto-flash ‘feature.’

First the China Glaze polish was great to work with, I was surprised it wasn’t streaky and that two coats gave me opaque coverage. It has a slight shimmer to it but I know my new camera wouldn’t have been able to capture it even if the flash had allowed me to properly photograph it last night. I will definitely wear this one again. I topped it with Instant Artificials and then Seche Vite and it dried and set within one hour of application. I will report on this combination here, as I think that using the Instant Artificials as a second base coat was making my polish chip faster.

Now the Sally Hansen Color Quick polishing pen was really awesome to stamp with, however the ‘brush’ would be extremely difficult to use on nails. On nail plates for stamping it worked perfectly. I loved the shiny metallic turquoise over the bright yellow of Sunshine Pop and I hope you like the combination too. I used Bundle Monster plate 224, which I really do enjoy stamping with. I was pretty impressed with the Sally Hansen Color Quick polishing pen’s formula too. It dried fast and was a delight to stamp with.

I hope this manicure lasts until Monday, so we’ll see. If it doesn’t make it until then, I’ll be redoing my nails and reporting back here to let you know how long it did manage to last. I am still experimenting on finding the right combination of base coats and top coats that work together to make for a long lasting manicure. I wish you happy polishing and thank you for reading.

Bundle Monster 3rd Set Sneak Peek

If you’ve liked them on facebook chances are you’ve seen these two images, but on the off chance you’ve missed their posts, here are both images they’ve released so far, and if I may say so, this excites me no end! I really want one of the first run sets, so you’ll definitely be seeing manicures with these plates when they are released in the next 4-6 weeks. Here are the images without further delay:

Of course these preview images are Bundle Monster's property, but I don't think they mind my sharing them on my little blog to get the word out and share the joy of nail art. Thanks for checking out my blog and I wish you happy polishing.

China Glaze Ahoy

I am so glad I picked up this polish yesterday. It’s incredible on the nail; it reminds me a little of Strawberry Fields with the glass flecks in it. I was thrilled with the formula as well, it went on smoothly and easily. It has been sitting on Sally’s shelf for some time, and I would pick it up and think I had other colors like it, but really I don’t. However it really comes alive when you put it on your nails.

Its raspberry color is gorgeous, and I took a couple of photographs of it in different lighting before I stamped it with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Silver Sweep and thought you’d enjoy seeing it in both direct sunlight and regular natural light. I used Bundle Monster plate 205 and picked this delicate image, but it didn’t work as nicely as some of the others I’ve used. I like it well enough though, and hope you do too.

Thank you for checking out my blog and I hope you enjoyed the photographs. I wish you happy polishing!

World Autism Awareness Manicure

I don’t have any puzzle piece image plates, so I used a pretty blue polish I picked up at Sally’s today with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Silver Sweep, using Konad image plate m60. I am late in getting this up today because I had a lot going on. I hope the third Bundle Monster set has a piece of a puzzle on it, because that would make me very happy. Nina Ultra Pro in Blaze Blu is a matte polish, and I used Seche Vite top coat to give it that glossy shine, but you can’t really see it in the photograph before the stamping below.

And with the Stamping:

I must say I didn’t catch on that this formula was matte, or I might have initially rethought the purchase. Sally’s has a buy 2 get 1 free sale this month, so I picked up Molten Copper and Pretti Pink by Nina Ultra Pro in addition to this pretty blue. I also got Reggae to Riches, and two of the Prismatics, by China Glaze, Liquid Crystal and Full Spectrum. As for the formula on the Nina Ultra Pro Blaze Blu, it was all right, I was not too happy with it on the first coat. It really would have looked better with a third coat, but I didn’t want to do a third coat, so I didn’t. However it did even out after a second coat, but a matte finish on a polish just doesn’t do it for me.

But after a nice coat of Seche Vite it looked like I like polish to look. So I was very pleased. I would definitely repurchase because it reminds me of Nails Inc Baker Street. It’s not a dead on dupe of course, but it’s the closest I’ve come across in my travels. I really like it, and I hope you do too. April is Autism Awareness Month and I hope that you enjoyed my blue World Autism Awareness Day manicure. Thank you for checking it out and if you’ve never tried Nina Ultra Pro polishes, now’s a great time to get three of the ones you find yourself looking at for about $2.50 a pop since it’s $3.79 per bottle and you can get three for around $7 right now during the month at Sally’s. I picked up the three China Glazes, plus the three Nina’s with some Supernail Cuticle Remover for just under $20. I wish you all a fantastic week and happy polishing!
